When flying was my profession, we had a saying that, "We were only as good as our last flight." The sentiment being that having a certificate or qualification doesn't make you a good pilot, it is the constant application of proven principles, techniques and experimentation. That's why I love coaching, and why I am offering these series of coaching evenings to anyone, and particularly those in the Colorado Springs area.
Experiential Learning:
1. After meeting and greeting one another, we'll review what we have been practicing in a lightning round of sharing and being coached.
2. Each time a chosen participant will offer a "golden nugget of wisdom" from something they do or read about that relates to one or more of the ICF Core Competencies. She or he will be asked to share in a coaching/facilitative way and get feedback on how it was done.
3. In triads, we shall take an opportunity to practice some aspect of coaching either taken from the "golden nugget", or one of the Core Competencies so each triad member practices coaching for a minimum of 20 minutes, then getting feedback from their client and witness/observer.
4. One of the participants will then be asked to conduct a "Summary, Commitment & Close" segment to finish off the evening. During the commitment phase, everyone will commit to applying one idea which will be reviewed next time.
There will also be an after-session Feedback Form online for participants to complete which will track level of engagement and satisfaction with the event.
Key Learning Points & Benefits for Participants:
- Commit to memory the 8 Core Competencies of ICF
- Hone your skills in coaching, regardless of what level you are now
- Learn by doing, observing, and reflecting on what good practice is
- Commitment to apply one idea after each session
- Reinforce learning by review after application
- Make new friends, and/or deepen relationships with other leaders and coaches
- Between sessions, We shall host a Basecamp group, and with everyone's agreement, put each person's commitment for the month in there. Then, when it comes time to share, we can celebrate everyone's application from each session.
Meeting Logistics:
Hybrid Meetings. We ask each in-person participant to bring some snacks or hors d'oeuvres to share at the beginning of the evening.
